Kik sat on the squashy sofa looking into the fire. She liked the fire. It had something about it that made it different from all the other ones she'd seen before, and she had seen a lot.

Kyli watched as Sei left the room. where was he going? She stared after him for a brief moment, then turned back to Kik and Charles, and continued chatting.

Kik didn't really listen to anything Kyli said. After a while she turned to her and pretended to listen

"so, I'm guessing you aren't muggle -born then Kyli" said Charles. Kyli shook her head.
"I'm what's known as a pure blood- both my parents are wizards." Kyli pulled her legs onto the armchair, and put her arms round them, resting her head on her knees.
Charles nodded, "so you're something of an expert in the magical feild"
Kyli filled with happiness at the praise, "I know the tricks, but that doesn't make me better of worse than anyone else here"
The two of them stared at each other for a while. Kyli watched the way his hair partly flopped over his face, but not enough to cover his eyes. Charles noticed how the light was catching her hair, giving it an intruiging golden, red tone.
Kyli wondered whether she should say something, but she realised that they were both perfectly content to be sitting there, not speaking.

Kik smiled inwardly at Kyli. She didn't want to be in her shoes. It was kinda obvious that she had a major crush on Charles, but she also noticed the look earlier, at Sei. She's torn between the two. Kik kicked off her yellow boots and wiggled her toes. Thank God she didn't suffer from crushes. If anything she found them entirely annoying.

Right on cue, Dan made his way across the room. "hey sis!" he called. Kyli jumped slightly at his voice, and turned to face him, as he said, "what's this I hear about my ickle sister spreading huge fat rumours round the school" he was beaming.
Kyli shook her head, "I only did it for a laugh!"
"what better reason is there to do anything?" Dan was still grinning, "mind you, would you care about not making another scene tommorrow- I've already had to postpone my big surprise once!"
"oh- what are you doing?" Kyli asked eagerly, but Dani just wagged his finger, "that would be telling" he said in an annoyingly superior voice, "you'll have to wait and see, won't you?" He moved back over to join his mates, still grinning.
Kyli turned back to Charles, "sorry about that" she said, still grinning, "he's my brother, Dan"
Charles looked wistful, and said the cliched line, "i wish I had a brother"
"went you've got four, and six sisters to boot- you don't really adopt that line of thinking!"
