The Slytherin’s were going into Potions last period and Robyn was still being congratulated about making the team. She said thank you and smirked for what seemed like the millionth time, and sat down wearily behind the desk closest to the front. She liked Natrix. She liked him a lot. He was in the year above her, and he’d tutored her when she was in year five. She smiled at him, and started getting out ingredients and equipment.
Drint stood up and took out his wand. Instructions for one of the simplest potions she had ever seen were on the board. Robyn rolled her eyes, and followed the first instruction quickly. Drint had also started the making the demonstration potion at the front of the room. Robyn added the final ingredient and looked across the desk at Jake, who had only finished reading the instructions. She stirred the mixture slowly with her wand and look at it disdainfully. Drint looked up at Robyn and her absolutely perfect potion and placed down the vial he’d been holding.
He walked over to her and looked into the cauldron. He couldn’t see a single fault. How had she done it so perfectly and faster than he had? She was muggle born. He saw her lips twitch at the corners slightly and it reminded him of someone he used to know. Her trait had been exactly the same.
The rest of the class was looking at Robyn as well. “Uhm . . . very good Miss. Zzyna. 20 Points to Slytherin . . . for speed and accuracy.” he said uncertainly. He wasn’t used to having a proficient potion maker in his Slytherin class. “Thank you Na- Sir.” She corrected herself. Drint’s eyes slowly moved back to Robyn. He opened his mouth to speak; then shut it and walked over to the other side of the room to examine the other first year’s work.
Was she about to call him Natrix? And did he recognise that style of potion making? No. NV had died a year after she left Hogwarts. All because of her stupid brother. Because of him, the whole Idev had been wiped out. In the fifteen minutes it took for the rest of the class to finish their potion he considered going to ask Robyn how she was such an adept potion maker, but he decided against it.
“You should now be finished.” He said standing up again. Robyn stood up, then realised that nobody else was, sat down again, blushing slightly. Why had she stood up? Pupils were no longer expected to stand up when the teacher told them they’d finished. Thornton had got rid of that a couple of years ago.
But this couldn’t be NV. It was obviously just a first year who read a lot . . . or was she . . . . . . . . . .
“I will be awarding and deducting house points as to how good, bad or abysmal your potions are.” Drint said, walking to Clair’s and Tara’s appalling potions. He deducted 5 points each and moved onto Reid and Rhys’ potions which were both fairly decent. He awarded 5 points between them. He then walked across the room and headed towards Kye and Lucas. Kye was awarded 10 points and Lucas 20. He stepped to Jake, Robyn and Auria’s table. Jake’s potion was dismal and way too runny, so he took off 5 points and moved onto Auria. He gave her 20 points for a good potion and finally walked over to Robyn’s potion. He mumbled something and swirled the potion with his wand. Finding absolutely no fault her quietly gave her 40 points and told her to see him after class.
Robyn nodded and the rest of the class cheered their approval. Robyn looked at Jake across the table. He wasn’t cheering, he wasn’t even smiling. He looked back at her questioningly and she looked back confused. ‘What the hell is that look for!’ The classroom was suddenly full of benches scraping the floor. Robyn stood up as well and told Auria and Jake she’d meet them in the common room. Drint waited for the rest of the class to disappear before beckoning Robyn over.
“You produced a brilliant potion today. Too brilliant.” He said, still sitting. “What happened NV? I thought you were dead. Why didn’t you tell me!” he said standing up quickly.
’Sh[zz]!!! Am I that easy to read!?
She morphed into her normal shape and height and took a few steps closer to his desk. “I’m sorry Natrix. I couldn’t risk it.”
[and I’ll leave it there. More later I suppose . . . C: ]
