Peter and Zada were skiving (again); muggle music blaring out of a CD player charmed to work inside magical wards.
Zada leaned against the sinks, mouthing the words to her favourite part of the song. Peter smiled slightly, and 'sat' next to her; Zada leaned against his shoulder.
When the song ended, she pushed herself off the sink and changed the CD; an slower song started to play. She walked back to the sink as Peter took out a pack of cigarettes. Zada took one when he offered, and waited for him to light it.
"Oh. Do you know about the party I'm having in the holidays?" she asked casually.
Peter raised an eyebrow. "No. Why? Am I invited?"
"Of course." Zada said, flashing him a smile.
"Well that's good." Peter said, also smiling, taking a few steps nearer her.
"Yes..." Zada replied, gazing back into his eyes. She also took a step towards him.
Just as they were about to touch, the door slammed open. Both startled teens turned round to see who had interrupted them, forgetting momentarily that there was muggle music still blaring, their cigarettes were still lit and they were skiving off lessons.
"Well, well. What do we have here?" Drint sneered raising an unimpressed eyebrow, while silencing the CD player with a flick of his wrist.
"Uhr..." the teens stuttered.
"Yes. 'Uhrr' indeed... Miss Baseley I am ashamed of you. As a Slytherin I expected better behaviour. I will meet you in my office. Go." the angry professor stated.
"Yes Sir." Zada said quietly, starting to walk towards the door. But before she got there, Drint performed a few spells on her, vanishing the cigarette and it's influences. She glanced at him, then quickly back at Peter, before leaving.
"Cairns."
"Sir?"
"You're new here. I... understand... that you might not have known the rules when you first came here. But it is no longer the first few weeks of term. This behaviour cannot, and will not, go unpunished."
Peter shrugged. "Okay."
Drint mentally facepalmed. 'Idiot boy!'
"You seem unconcerned. A crime like this can go on your permanent record... Or are you not bothered about that."
"What? Smoking and skiving is serious enough to go on my record(?) ...sir." Peter asked, doubtful.
Drint sighed angrily, trying not to release his anger on this stupid teenager. "20 points from Gryffindor for being disrespectful towards a teacher. And, let me see, a further 20 for skiving from lessons today; 50 for previous missed lessons; 50 for the use of banned muggle drugs and the use of a muggle music player outside the classroom; and finally 10 points for badly influencing another pupil."
Peter frowned, obviously not expecting so many points to be deducted.
Drint, seeing the boy so calm, continued. "And detention with me every Saturday until Easter."
At this, Peter glared at the professor. "But sir!"
Drint held up a hand. "You know the rules Cairns. You have to pay for your wrong doings." Peter folded his arms across his chest and glared at Drint. "I expect you to go straight back to lessons, and I don't want to hear you missing lessons again."
"You're not my head of house, why should I listen to you!?" Peter snapped back.
Drint's eyes flashed angrily. "BECAUSE! I am your teacher! I will not stand for such disrespect! Another 20 points from Gryffindor and detention every day until the end of term. Starting tonight. My office at 7." Drint waved his wand at Peter; the cigarette disappeared. He then turned on the CD player and vanished that too. "Now go!"
Peter left, slouching, glaring daggers over his shoulder at Drint as he went.
