Drint looked up from his desk as there was a knock on the door. “Come In.”
“Hello Sir.” A girl muttered from the doorway.
“Zada. Take a seat.”
Zada sat on the chair in front of the desk, shuffling nervously.
Drint frowned slightly at her nervousness. Zada was never the quiet, easily intimidated type. “What did you want to ask?”
“Uhm…Well…I was…I hate, I mean, I don’t enjoy some of my lessons. Can I change them?” she said rather quickly.
Drint leaned back in his chair and opened a draw in his desk. He saw Zada visibly relax as she realised she would be allowed to change some subjects. He took out the Year Three time tables. “What would you like to change?” he asked.
“I don’t want to continue with History or Muggle Studies. I’d like to do Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures instead.”
“You are aware that your other lessons may, no, will be affected by this change.”
“Yes. But…Can I...I’d like my Flying lessons to stay the same please.” Drint raised an eyebrow, but Zada just shrugged, smirking slightly.
Drint nodded. “I’ll see what strings I can pull.”
“Thanks Sir.”
Before Zada left the room, Drint said “To keep your Flying lesson the same will require other people’s time tables to change.”
“I know Sir.”
---
Not ten minutes later, there was another knock on the door.
“Sir?”
“Mr Slytherin.”
Morfin walked into the room and stood behind the chair that Zada had vacated a few minutes ago. “Sir. Can I do Ancient Runes please?”
“As well?” Drint said, looking back down at the work he was marking.
“Yes. I don’t want to substitute any of my existing subjects. But Trent and Karsca both say that it’s a worth while subject, and I was doing a bit of research on it anyway and I would like to learn it please, Sir.”
“You’ll lose your last free period if you don’t swap it with a subject.”
“Yes. I thought of that, but I would like to learn it, and there aren’t any subjects I want to drop.”
Drint nodded. “Okay. I’ll check with the Headmistress. Your new time table should start next week.”
“Thank you Sir.”
---
“Those two have caused nearly everyone’s time tables to change, you realise that Headmistress?”
“Yes, but if they were unhappy with their choices, it is our job, as teachers, to help them.” Hale said, smiling. Then she flicked her wand, and the time tables in front of her shifted. Blue changed to pink, green to aqua, yellow to purple. Drint wrinkled his nose at how gaudy these time tables were. Whatever happened to the good old handwritten ones?
“Natrix, could you possibly pass these onto all the students on Monday for me please?”
Drint sighed and rolled his eyes, but accepted the time tables and left her office.
