Kyli was standing in a room full of steaming cauldrons. Her eyes searched the crowd, until she found two boys, one slightly more handsome, with medium length black hair; tall and skinny- yet he could not be called lanky. the other was dropping ingredients into his cauldron. Kyli recognised the boys by now.
A chubby, ancient teacher made his way past Raika’s cauldron, raising his eyebrows, “dear, dear Tyakess, I think you’ll find that you’ve stirred that a little too much” he said icily, “however much you attempt to follow the guidelines, you just don’t have the correct techinique, do you?” and then away he swept.
Raika just scowled and continued stirring, with an air on his face that said he couldn’t care less, “Mine’ll still be better than anyone else’s though” he muttered.
A few minutes later, a smirk lit Raika’s face, and his eyebrows twitched. He kicked Té in the ankle…
Té turned to face him, frowning slightly, “what was that for?” he mimed. Raika smiled, “just… an idea” he said. Té looked interested.
“an idea as in, a decent idea?” said Té. Raika continued to smile, “interested?” Té nodded.
“well, since your shape making has been getting so good…” raika said, “I was wondering if you would be up to some first year baiting?”
“in what way…”
“c’mon Té use your head,” said Raika, “or must I do all the thinking myself…”
“I’m not in the mood for that sort of thing right now” said Té impatiently. Raika sighed, “not even in the mood for a good old-“
“Excuse me Mr. Tyakess” the teacher was standing over Raika, frowning. “I hope I’m not disturbing your pleasant conversation”
“erm, actually you were” said Raika, with an air of superiority. Bad move.
The teacher looked at him murderously, “well then, I will deduct 30 points from Náthiste and you can see me in detention on Friday” the teacher swept away, and with an air that reminded Kyli of Proffessor Drint…. Raika was scowling. “git” he hissed.
“detention on Friday, fun…” said Té sarcastically. Raika rolled his eyes, “I’m not actually gonna go” he said. Té shook his head, “but Proffessor Ronas-“
“Ronas needs a good sorting out” interrupted Raika. “There’s got to be something we can do…”
Raika’s eyes flicked to the cauldon at the front of the room. The demonstration cauldron. Kyli remembered that Drint had one too, he’d do the potion himself to show it to the class. Kyli noticed Raika’s eyebrows twitching excitedly. He flashed a smirk at Té, then moved to the front of the class.
Kyli noticed Raika move into the stock cupboard, then reappear a few minutes later, with a small grey stone-like thing in his hand. He moved over to the cauldron, inconspicuously. Then he quickly brought the stone out from his robes, and dropped it in. By the time he made it back to his seat, the cauldron was issuing grey steam, and a rather unpleasant odour…
As the steam became more thick, Raika and Té began to smirk. After a few minutes, the professor noticed the steam, slightly alarmed, “what on earth?!”
Raika was smirking profoundly, as was Té. But Kyli could no longer see them behind all the smoke. It was a blurred mixture of reds, purples, greens… Kyli felt it rising into her nostrils and mouth, and forcing its way down her throat. At the same time as she was fighting against it, she heard Té’s voice ring out in the fog,
“it seems, sir, that you must have made a mistake in your potion” and then Raika’s voice, “or perhaps the professor just lacks the correct technique…”
Kyli awoke, coughing with the smoke still in her lungs… Although it wasn’t. It was just a dream. Kyli rubbed her forehead. Why was she having dreams about sei’s dad? What was going on???
