Jack walked out of King’s Cross station and outside into the rain where everyone was rushing to get out of the rain. He started the 15 minute walk home. Several people bumped into him as they got on with their busy lives. No-one gave him a second glance. He was just a boy in the rain. What was he to them? He reached the ‘driveway’ to his house. It was muddy, wet and eroded. It hadn’t been used for a couple of years. Jack got out his wand and levitated his trunk; instantly regretting it. He was out of school. No more magic. He put his wand back in his pocket, knowing that the department of underage use of magic had just got a memo saying that Jack Pravus has being doing magic out of school. ‘Great (!)’
He made his way up the drive, slowly. When he got to the door, the rain started to stop. He looked at the sky. Then back at the door. It opened. He walked in.
“What took you so long!” his father snapped. Jack said nothing.
“Don’t come in like that. You’re dirty and you’ll make the carpet muddy.”
‘So you care more about the carpet than me. Thanks (!)’ Jack thought, still not looking at his father.
“When I talk to you, you look at me. Then when I ask you a question, you answer!” he said, anger rising in his voice.
“Well if I do answer, you just shout at me!” Jack said defensively. He watched as his father took a step closer to him. “What are you gonna do, pu-?” Jack never finished the sentence. His father’s wand was already out. Jack eyed it nervously. It hadn’t even been a day of the holidays yet and his father was already going to hurt him. Jack shut up as soon as the wand was out. “Get out of my sight.” His father spat. Xenar came into the room and raised a finger at Jack. He was cleaned instantly. Jack glared at Xenar. Then he walked up the stairs, slamming the door as he went in his room. It fell of its hinges. He let out a cry of anger and took out his wand. Without thinking, it was back on its frame, fixed. ‘Damn it! Stop doing fu[zz]ing magic Jack!’ He collapsed on his bed, and fell asleep instantly in the warm covers.
