1G gathered in the grounds after lunch, ready for their COMC lesson.
Charles and Kyli were sitting with Kik, Sei and cenizo (who had out his notes and was scribbling). May, Saffy and Lily, who had formed a quiet and well-behaved group, were sitting near the front of the class, whilst Elsie, Max and the rest of "the gigglers" were sitting together.
[miss anyone? soz for pp, but I think that pretty much sums up 1G]

Sei looked around the grassy area, borded on two sides by forest, and wondered what crazy creatures they'd be studying.

Herschel was whilstling as he made his way over to his class. "afternoon class!" he said brightly, "now today should be fun, especially for some of you" he indicated a large crate next to him, "in here are some Feration Gnomes. Who can tell me about them?"
Kyli's hand shot up. "they're distant relations of the garden gnome, about a foot or so high, and covered in browny grey fur. They live in dark forests and they are very good at ambushing prey. On their own, however, they are completely harmless"
Herschel beamed at her, "excellent, ten points to gryffindor" he said, "and what I'd like you to do today is get into small groups of three four fiveish" that part was pretty much already done "and take one gnome per group. They're wuite tired right now, so they should be pretty easy to study. take notes of appearance and temperment, etc- But I'll hand them out."

"We're studying gnomes? Crazy, crazy"
He muttered.

"what's wrong with that?" Kyli asked, holding the gnome that she had just been presented with by it's throat and placing it on the ground in front of the others.
Charles looked at it apprehensively.

"Well. . .it's a gnome. I just didnt think they existed."
He said looking at it.
"Are they supposed to be hairy? I thought they were just like little people."

"well, there's all sort of different varieties" Kyli said, prodding the gnome slightly, and smiling when it attempted to bite her finger, "but, yes, feration gnomes do have hair"
Cenizo was scribbling all of this down.

Sei shook his head.
"I think I'm gonna like Care of Magical Creatures, I wonder what other animals we'll be studying."
He grinned, it would be interesting to see all the strange things he'd never thought existed.
He sat down on a log and set his quill to make a couple of notes.
"Perhaps a flying horse, or a fire-breathing fish." He joked, gently poking the gnome with his foot.
It sniffed at his shoe.

"maybe" said Kyli, "personally I find thestrals, although interesting, rather difficult to study. But each to his own. and yes Kik, of course you may copy my notes" she said, grinning, as Kik leant over her shoulder [soz 4 pp, but it is a very kik-ish thing]
Charles prodded the gnome too. It ran off. He leapt up and made to chase it.
[did sei want to talk to kyli out of earshot of charles?]

[no, that was just to tell her he'd talked to charlie, but it seems a bit pointless now ^-^]
Sei laughed at Charlie trying to catch the gnome.
"I sent Saire some of those pictures yesterday."
He said smiling.
Elsie and Max where thinking up fun names to call their gnome. Including, mr flaaaffy, bitey, and smellyface-senior-junior-junior-the-thirtysecond.
