Kyli flopped down onto a sofa. gosh, changing matchsticks into needles was tiring!
Charles pulled out some parchment and began writing a letter home. Typical stuff- "hey, I'm fine, how are you?". It was pretty meaningless, but his parents were interested in it...

Elsie and the bi-crew were excitedly giggling round the notice board.
She skipped over to where Kyli Charlie and Sei [wah, he's a third wheel already -_-] where sitting.
"Hey guys! It's halloween on Friday! There's gonna be a fancy dress ball for the first years! How cool is that!"

"awesome!" said Kyli, sarcastically, although her head was spinning with costume ideas already.
Charles looked at kyli oddly. he still didn't understand her problem with Elsie. He turned to Elsie smiling, "when? what time?" he asked.

Elsie gave a small pout.
"Fine! I just wish you'd be nice to me Kyli."
She said with her eyes watering a little, she turned away and walked back to her group.
Sei finished making his quill write up his homework for the day and packed it away in his bag.
"I'm gonna go to the owlery now. To see if Saire's replied."
He said getting up.

"see ya" said Kyli.
"what was that about?" Charles asked Kyli,
"what was what about?"
"that, just now. why were you being so nasty to Elsie?" Charles asked.
Kyli looked at him shocked, "I wasn't being nasty, I just didn't particularly feel like pretending to care about her stupid rumours and I didn't want to put up with her annoying giggles"
"you were still a bit harsh!" Charles said defensively
"harsh?" Kyli said expasperated, "I just told her to take her nose out of from where it wasn't wanted!"
"Who says it wasn't wanted?"
"Oh for goodness sake Charles!" Kyli said annoyed, "when is Elsie ever welcome over here???"
"what is your problem with her?"
"my problem is that she is an annoying prying, tactless prat who sticks her nose in everywhere, and spreads stupid rumours, regardless of other people's feelings!"
"oh come one, that's not true..."
"trust me Charles, Elsie's doesn't care about anything but getting a story!"
"your being rather prejudiced," said Charles, righteously.
"I'm not being prejudiced," said Kyli irratatedly, "I'm just making an informed opinion" she sighed, "ad I really can't be bothered with this right now"
"fine" Charles took that as the end of the argument. All the same, the pair sat in stony silence for some time.

About ten minutes later Sei came back, smiling broadly and sat down on the other end of the sofa to them to finish reading Saire's letter.
