Valentines day came and went, with new couples delighting in the youth of their relationship and old couples quietly pleased at how well they had lasted.
Monday evening for Tobi and Elsie was spent at the Valentines day ball.
Elsie had worn flat shoes tonight, and had felt shorter than she had scince year one.
Tobi couldn't have been more please to find that he was the same height as her, if not taller, albeit with a little help from the help of 'man-heelz' something he had bought surrupticiously over the holidays and added a good inch to his height.
"It was magical Tobi. Thankyou so much." Elsie murmered to him as they stood outside and looked at the enchantment of the grounds in the night time.
Pink flushed both of their cheeks in the dim light of the floating candles and they broke eye contact momentarily. Of the same accord they swayed closer to one another in the dying strains of a song.
"Elsie.." Tobi began, immediately feeling stupid when she turned to look at him.
"Mm?"
His heart wrenched at the expression on her beautiful face, so unlike when she was with the others gossiping. He found there was nothing to say to her. For one wonderful moment all he could see were her eyes, the center of his world, for once he wasn't looking up at them.
The world seemed to melt away around them both, the music just a suggestion of what was going on in a different universe. The night sky became a painted backdrop of stars as, tentatively, Tobi leaned forward. Elsie felt her heartbeat flutter in the moment and relaxed her eyelids, letting his arms wrap around her waist as hers found their place on his shoulders. Their warmth drew them closer in the spring twilight and for a few aching seconds the distance between their lips seemed to span a thousand miles. Time became just another word as slowly, with an unspoken longing, their lips met in the dark and they locked in a silent embrace.
