Kik quickly took in the appearence of the teacher. Oddly, she reminded her of Kyli. the authoritive stance, the cheery language, the way she assessed people. Kik laughed softly at Kyli's arched back in front of her.

Kyli looked up as the teacher entered. [wtf, authoritive stance?]
"right class" said Proffessor Mason, "I'm glad to see almost everyone is here" she walked up to the front of the classroom, "I'm afraid I'm going to start our first lesson with a nice boring lecture, so quills out."

Sei looked worridly at 'his' quill and hoped he'd be able to write as nicely as Kyli with it.

Kik chose her new favourite quill, her red and purple one.

Proffessor Mason surveyed the class. They looked surprisingly ordinary. After the hype in the newspapers, she expecting rule-breaking rioters. Ah well, the media was prone to exaggeration...
"so class, first i'm going to run through the general idea of Defence Against the Dark Arts, and then I will go over what we will be studying over the following year."
with her wand, she made some bullet points on the board.
"i would also like to say that every one of the pupils in this class must behave sensibly and safely at all times- I do not want any of the class in danger from stupid behaviour"

Sei watched curiously as she wrote on the board by magic. Mabye he could do the same with the quill. With a quick thought he had it ready to write. He made a few practice squiggles, it seemed to work.

Kik hid her smile behind her hand and made sure all of her friends got it. In her opinion they were like magnets to trouble. She started to write down the bullet points on the board. She hated her writing, she was home schooled so it wasn't very orderly, it always seemed to be a different size... then again, writing is better than mucking up spells

Charles wrote in his curly, neat hadn writing as did Kyli.
"right class, now that we've got the boring stuff over, let's get on to the practical part of the lesson"

Sei let his quill float onto the desk. So far so good. His handwriting looked exactly the same as his usual. Small, neat-ish, big loops, but not curls, on his g's and y's.

Kik put her quill away as instructed with some disappointment. Practical? So far this lead to bad news
